As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories in some incredible settings—but Berry Lakein Little Ayton, Great Ayton in North Yorkshire is something truly special. I was thrilled to be part of their opening day styled shoot, documenting the very first chapter of this breathtaking venue’s story.
Nestled at the edge of the North York Moors, Berry Lake offers a rare blend of rustic tranquility and refined elegance. The venue is set around a private freshwater lake, surrounded by rolling countryside, mature trees, and endless open skies. It feels secluded and peaceful—yet remains easily accessible, making it an ideal destination for couples seeking a nature-forward but polished wedding experience.
The ceremony space is tucked into a quiet woodland clearing, where guests are greeted by the scent of pine and the soft crunch of leaves underfoot. It’s the kind of place where the natural surroundings do all the talking—just add vows, a little music, and love.
Just a short walk away, the reception area opens up by the lake. Three giant interlinked Nordic tipis create a warm, inviting space for dining and dancing, with festoon lighting, wooden flooring, and views across the water. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to let nature shine, while still offering comfort and versatility in any season.
Every detail of the styled shoot was a celebration of contrasts—earthy textures paired with elegant styling, wild florals softened with blush tones, and the easy charm of outdoor living paired with carefully crafted design. Think: dreamy tablescapes under canvas, golden hour portraits by the lake, and that special kind of calm you only get when surrounded by trees and sky.
The way the light filters through the trees, reflects off the lake, and glows inside the tipis made this shoot a true pleasure to photograph. From morning mist to evening sparkle, Berry Lake offers a dynamic natural backdrop that changes beautifully throughout the day—and through the lens, it’s pure magic.
Berry Lake is more than just a venue—it’s a place where stories will be told, memories made, and love captured in its most authentic form. I feel incredibly lucky to have helped document the beginning of this journey, and I can’t wait to return for the real wedding celebrations still to come.
